Flickr Groups

Lately I've been playing around in Flickr (as usual, NOT the Learning 2.0 assignment I'm supposed to be doing this week!) and the groups are kind of interesting. This is one of the strong features of Flickr -- people from all over the globe or even in one community can join their photos together into a "pool" on a particular theme.

My new favorite is the Boring Postcards pool. And check out the Ohio University and Athens group badge in the blog sidebar.

The faces group featured below is kind of interesting -- the faces change every time the browser is reloaded.

#10 Using an Image Generator

These sketches were created using the sketch image generator. For the one on the left, I started out with a digital photo that I had saved in Picasa Web Albums, cropped out my friend with the online photo tool Preloadr (a Flickr third-party mashup) and then used the sketch generator to make it into a sketch.

A useful thing in Flickr that I like is the size options -- when you click the "All Sizes" link above any of your photos, it gives you the option of choosing a square, thumbnail, small, medium or large sized photo. And on top of that, you can choose to either download it to your computer, grab the URL to use with a blog or send in email, or grab the HTML to post on a web page.

Flickr Badge Generator

I tried the Flickr Badge Generator. It creates a little icon that you can put on websites and blogs that connects to your Flickr pictures. I only have 5 photos in Flickr so the images won't change but they will eventually as I add more photos. I like it because if I start a blog for my family and friends (which I have been wanting to do) they can see my most recent photos. This is an HTML badge:

You can also use other people's Flickr photos, so I chose all public photos tagged hockinghills. This is also an HTML badge (I had trouble getting the Flash badge to work) I think I followed the rules about posting pictures correctly because when you click on each picture, it goes to the person's Flickr account, which essentially gives them credit for the photo.

ARRGH! I cannot figure out the spacing issues going on in this post. If anyone can help, let me know.

#6 Flickr Spelling

Diana
This is my favorite Flickr mashup so far, made with the Flickr Sign Generator by Andrea Micheloni. I really like street art so I think that is why I like it so much. I am going to keep checking, but I think the letters change periodically.

Here's another one done with Spell with Flickr

#1 Germany Photos

This is serving as a test post for the OU Libraries Learning 2.0 project, and also as an opportunity to ONCE AGAIN bombard everyone I know with my travel photos! They are all collected in Picasa Web Albums. There is an album for each city or destination, and also a Quick Tour for those who just want to look at a few photographs rather than the whole lot. Above: Me (barely) riding a bike in the Spreewald biosphere preserve!
