I started a Facebook account a few months ago when some of my colleagues in Reference started them and invited me. They were creating accounts to be more visible to the student population, and I thought it would be a good idea for me as well, since I interact with students as part of my job.
When I created the account, I found that other people I know are on Facebook, including some librarians I know in other parts of the state. So its been a good way to keep up with their professional activities and presentations.
Mostly I'm thinking of using Facebook as a place for my "professional" face, since its so connected to the academic world.
